Thermal Economics: Under Screed Acoustic Insulation for Noise Reducing Flooring

Thermal Economics under screed products can be used for both new build and refurbishment for separating floors in both domestic and commercial properties to reduce airborne sound between floors. By isolating the screed from the structure, you can ensure that any impact noise doesn’t travel through the masonry structure.

Thermal Economics products are robust. They do not suffer from any deterioration of acoustic performance during the normal lifespan of a building as they undergo virtually no short term deformation or long term creep deformation under normal domestic loads.

The under screed products listed below are the main component in the Thermal Economics Robust Detail floor constructions. With Robust Details, you don’t have to worry about the uncertainties of pre-completion sound testing to demonstrate compliance with the performance standards of Approved Document Part E. The impact improvement under screed systems are designed for reducing sound transmission and improving acoustic performance of concrete block and beam floors.

Below are details on key Thermal Economics under screed products stocked with CCF. As well as meeting building regulations, they are high quality insulation solutions. They are made from granulated waste rubber and cork, both environmentally sustainable products.

Isorubber Base

Application: High performance, durable acoustic mat for all types of floor finish

Benefits

  • Continues to perform for the life of the building
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating
  • Simple installation
  • Over 90% recycled content
  • Already installed over 4 million m2 in the UK

Isorubber Base is an acoustic and vibration reduction mat for use in separating floor constructions to provide soundproofing and noise reduction. As well as being used to achieve Approved Document Part E compliance, it can also be used in general soundproofing and noise reduction applications.

  • It is a 6mm thick acoustic insulation and vibration reducing mat
  • A highly durable product with a density of approximately 635Kg/m3
  • Roll size – 6mm x 1m x 10m
  • Roll weight – 37kg (14 rolls per pallet)

With a recycled content in excess of 90% waste rubber, a Global Warming Potential of Zero and an Ozone Depletion Potential of Zero Isorubber Base provides a means of using problematic waste material to the benefit of the environment.

It is also the main acoustic component for the following Robust Details constructions:

Robust Detail E-FC-4

Robust Detail E-FC-4 is an under screed acoustic insulation system for precast plank floors. It consists of Isorubber Base resilient acoustic insulation below a sand & cement or flow screed with Isoedge 6/260 perimeter separation strip and a Metal Frame or Isosonic acoustic ceiling treatment.

Robust Detail E-FC-14

Robust Detail E-FC-14 is an under screed acoustic insulation system for precast plank floors. E-FC-14 consists of Isorubber Code resilient acoustic insulation below a sand & cement or flow screed with Isoedge 6/260 perimeter separation strip and a Metal Frame ceiling supported on Isosonic Ceiling Cleats or an Isosonic Ceiling treatment.

Robust Detail E-FC-18

Robust Detail E-FC-18 is an under screed acoustic insulation system for insitu concrete floors that is ideal for multi storey projects. It consists of a resilient acoustic insulation below a sand & cement or flow screed with a perimeter separation strip and a Metal Frame ceiling treatment.

This Robust Detail provides a choice of proprietary under screed acoustic insulations that can be used including Isorubber Base. It also allows for party walls to be built off the structural slab, without the need for pre-completion testing.

System components

Don’t forget (ancillary products required for installation):

  • Isoedge 6/260
  • Isosonic ceiling strip
  • Isosonic hanger type C
  • Isosonic hanger type A

Acoustic insulation: Isorubber HP3

Application: Versatile, cost effective acoustic mat primarily used in concrete floor systems.

Benefits

  • Excellent impact reduction for a 3mm thick product
  • Continues to perform for the life of the building
  • Ideal for use with underfloor heating
  • Simple installation
  • Over 90% recycled content

Isorubber HP3 is a 3mm acoustic and vibration reduction mat for use in separating under screed from structural floor and absorbing impact sound. It is a highly durable product with a density of approximately 680Kg/m3. With a recycled content in excess of 90% waste rubber, a Global Warming Potential of Zero and an Ozone Depletion Potential of Zero, Isorubber HP3 provides a means of using problematic waste material to the benefit of the environment.

Isorubber HP3 is also ideal for use below underfloor heating systems. It provides excellent impact reduction for a 3mm thick product and lays flat when unrolled, providing the perfect surface for installing an under floor heating system.

Whilst it is primarily used in concrete floor systems to achieve Approved Document Part E compliance, but can also be used in general sound proofing applications.

It is also the main acoustic component for the following Robust Details constructions:

Robust Detail E-FC-12

Robust Detail E-FC-12 is an under screed acoustic insulation system for precast plank floors. It consists of Isorubber HP3 resilient acoustic insulation below a sand & cement or flow screed with Isoedge 6/260 perimeter separation strip and a Metal Frame or Isosonic ceiling treatment.

Robust Detail E-FC-18

Robust Detail E-FC-18 is an under screed acoustic insulation system for in situ concrete floors that is ideal for multi storey projects.
