Interstitial condensation is one of the potential causes of dampness within a building. It occurs when pressure and temperature differences force warm, humid air from inside the building through structural elements in a wall or ceiling until the air reaches a point cold enough for the moisture in the air to condense.
When this moisture condenses and permeates into building elements such as timber or insulation, materials dampen and, subsequently, mould can develop. This can damage the building by weakening the structural integrity and reducing the performance of insulation. The build-up of damp and mould can also lead to potential health hazards for the building’s inhabitants – such as eczema and respiratory problems, particularly for those who suffer from asthma.
New High Performance Vapour Tapes
Visqueen’s new Vapour Tapes form an integral part of their Vapour Check system, preventing warm and moist air from permeating into a building’s structural elements. This greatly improves general air-tightness and ensures compliance to Part L Building Regulations and complies with EN13984:2012, protecting insulation and structural elements from condensation damage and preventing the build-up of damp and mould.
Utilising advanced adhesive technology, that is 20 times more aggressive than standard adhesive systems at low temperatures, the Vapour Tapes mount Visqueen’s vapour membranes to the building substructures, providing exceptional grip to both wood and metal surfaces whilst ensuring airtight jointing and detailing between membranes. With an outstanding working temperature range from -40°C to 40°C, the Visqueen Vapour Tapes are designed for all weather conditions and actively displace moisture, creating an excellent bond to surfaces.
The tapes are available in two forms – Visqueen Double Sided Vapour Tape is 20mm x 50m and provides 250 metres of linear coverage, which is enough for at least five rooms. Meanwhile, Visqueen Single Sided Vapour Tape is a flexible blue PE-Scrim tape and is perfect for sealing overlaps, detailing and pipe penetration.
The launch of Vapour Tapes is part of Visqueen’s commitment to providing a complete solution for vapour control within building projects. By using them together with Visqueen’s Vapour Barrier Membranes, designers, specifiers and contractors can be assured that they are providing complete vapour and air-tightness to each building project, in line with the requirements of the latest building regulations.
